Keeping Up With The Robots

Natural evolution is slow. It takes thousands of years for the human body to make the smallest changes in order to adapt to an environment. Well if you want something done, you should do it yourself, right? Can the same be said about evolution? Should we implant chips into our brains to keep up with AI and to abolish brain diseases? Should we use these chips to remove the need for verbal communication? This is what Neuralink is all about, another one of Musk's start-ups. Basically, this chip will connect the brain to a chip that will allow communication without the need for speech. You will communicate in the same way a goddamn computer does. Your thoughts will be translated into binary code, which will then be sent to another chip (in another person or AI) and the thought you had will be shared at the same speed a computer can speak to another computer. The entire world will be connected to one another. These chips can also give you access to the internet. Which means you can access all of the internet's information as soon as you think about it. You will basically have the information already in your mind.

However, the main purpose of the chips is for health. It is supposed to help with memory loss problems, such as amnesia and Alzheimer's. This all comes together to serve one purpose. It helps us keep with AI. Musk is afraid that when AI will surpass human intelligence, we will not be able to comprehend anything that the AI is trying to 'say' if that's the right word. That is, in fact, all the information there is. Musk hasn't revealed a lot of the plan. He claims it isn't really his main focus, as he has diverted all of his attention on SpaceX and Tesla. Either Neuralink isn't a developed and well-thought out idea yet or it is meant to be kept secretive. Giving such a controversial idea publicity could potentially stop its development because of the lack of support. It could even become a political issue.

Here are my thoughts about all this. It is extremely far-fetched and needs to be researched much more thoroughly. Due to the lack of information of Neuralink, I find it very hard to form an opinion on this. People will obviously be skeptical about this all being a way for the government to control people's mind. I won't say anything about that, simply because there isn't enough evidence to say anything. That comes down to a matter of people's trust in the government and in Musk. I myself would definitely not want to be one of the first few people to get an implant. I would want to see these chips after a few years on sale before I even consider. It all seems very beneficial but to completely abolish the need for speech and communicate like computers seem to take away what makes us human.  It could be seen as an extension of our intelligence, but this seems more like a replacement. Of course, I want access to all the information on the internet whenever I want. Of course, I want to be able to communicate with AI and be able to comprehend everything about it. On the topic of health, it is certainly beneficial. In that case, this is a biomedical engineering experiment. The thing is, you can't implant this in someone until it is far enough from the experimental phase of development.

Finally, on the topic of keeping up with AI, I do believe that we should know everything about our own creation. It would be embarrassing if we didn't. However, not because I am afraid of an AI revolt. I have a separate blog post on the entire topic. I just think we should know what it is all about and what knowledge it has. Not that it will surpass the knowledge humans have because it cannot learn anything beyond what has been inputted in it. I do not think AI will not become its own race and become self-aware. It is complex but it is nowhere as complex and probably will never be as complex as the human brain. It is so complex that even the brain itself cannot understand it. AI is unable to realize what it is. AI actually cannot realize anything. That's what makes it AI. It only 'learns' and 'adapts' to perform its job better. It is a more complex factory robot. I will say that there is no reason to create AI that mimics humans. In fact, that creates an illusion that AI is a species.

Anyways, Neuralink is still a topic I am pretty much neutral on. I like some aspects but I am uncertain and dislike others. It is all too unclear and shady right now to really say so much about it. If there is more information about this in the future, I will likely create an updated post to share the information and my thoughts
